Questions about DryvCheck
How do I check a car's history in South Africa?
Run a DryvCheck at dryv.co.za/dryvcheck: scan the car's licence disc with your phone's camera or type in its 17-character VIN. Dryv looks the car up with FirstCheck for free first, so you see whether a report exists before you pay anything.
What does a DryvCheck report show?
The Complete Confidence Check covers police interest check; outstanding finance check; repair history checks; trade & retail values, low and high; vehicle microdot information and VIN verification & factory specifications. The report comes from FirstCheck and is emailed to you.
What is a VIN number?
A Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is a unique 17-character code assigned to every motor vehicle. You can find it on the vehicle's licence disc, on the dashboard (visible through the windscreen), or on the driver's side door jamb.
Can I search using my registration number?
DryvCheck runs on the VIN, the 17-character number that identifies your exact vehicle, rather than the plate currently bolted to it. Scan your licence disc with the camera button and we will read the VIN off it for you, or type it in.
How accurate is the data?
FirstCheck's data is as current as its sources. Dryv doesn't guarantee it, so treat the report as one check, not the only one. FirstCheck is a South African vehicle data provider that draws on sources including SAPS, financial institutions, insurance companies and the National Traffic Information System (eNaTIS).
What if my vehicle isn't found?
If a vehicle isn't found during the free preview search, you won't be charged. This can happen with very old vehicles, imports that haven't been registered locally, or if there's a typo in the VIN.
Can I get a refund?
Once a report is generated, refunds are not possible as the data has already been consumed from our provider. However, if a vehicle isn't found during the free preview, no payment is taken.
