Questions about Dryv

Dryv lists cars for sale at South African dealerships. These are the questions buyers and dealers ask us most, answered in a sentence or two.

Is Dryv free for buyers?

Yes. Searching for a car, asking Scout and contacting a dealership on Dryv cost you nothing. DryvCheck vehicle history reports are optional.

How do I list my dealership on Dryv?

Start at dryv.co.za/dealer/join and ask for a call. The Dryv team signs up every dealership itself, connects your stock to Dryv and talks you through the cost in person.

Can I finance a car through Dryv?

Dryv doesn't lend money, but the dealership arranges finance with the banks for you. Car pages and Scout estimate the monthly instalment at prime plus 2% over 72 months. The bank sets your real rate from your credit record, between prime plus 1% and prime plus 5% for most buyers.

What is Call Now, and when does it work?

Call Now phones you and puts you through to a salesperson at the dealership. It rings Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 18:00 and Saturday from 08:00 to 14:00, South African time, and not on Sunday. Outside those hours your details still go to the dealership, so a salesperson can call you back. If you've contacted the same dealership in the last 30 days, you go to the salesperson who helped you before, as long as they're still taking enquiries. A dealership that answers its own phones can switch Call Now off, and then the button doesn't show on its cars.

Why does Dryv ask for my phone number and email?

The dealership needs both to reach you: your phone for a call or WhatsApp, your email for a quote or documents. Under POPIA, Dryv follows up about the car on WhatsApp and email, and you can end that at any time by replying STOP on WhatsApp or using the unsubscribe link in an email.

What languages does Scout speak?

Scout reads any South African language and replies in English or Afrikaans. Write to it in isiZulu, isiXhosa, Sesotho or any other language and it answers in clear English.

Does Dryv show crash-test ratings?

Only where the AA's Safer Cars for Africa programme, run with Global NCAP, tested that model as it is sold in South Africa. Dryv never borrows a Euro NCAP or ANCAP result, because those test a different build. A car that wasn't tested shows "Not crash-tested for SA", and a car whose version Dryv can't match to the one tested shows "Not confirmed for this version".

What counts as new, demo or used on Dryv?

Under 300 km on the clock is new, 300 to 5,000 km is demo, and more than 5,000 km is used. Dryv keeps the dealership's own demo or used label, but a car the dealership calls new with 300 km or more on the clock is listed by the odometer.

How current are the listings?

Dryv copies each dealership's stock from its own system every night, and changes a dealership makes on Dryv itself show straight away. A car can sell or change price between updates, so confirm the price and that it's still available with the dealership before you travel.

Does Dryv check the dealerships it lists?

Yes. Dryv verifies every dealership itself before it goes live: we confirm the registered business and the physical address, speak to the managers and sales staff, and onboard the dealership and its cars ourselves. As with any car purchase, check the banking details before paying a deposit.
